Dimitar Berbatov would welcome Sergio Aguero at Manchester United
Speaking to Betfair (h/t The Metro), Dimitar Berbatov admits he would welcome the chance to see Sergio Aguero work his magic in a Manchester United jersey.
The 32-year-old is set to leave Manchester City in the summer after 10 prolific years at the Etihad. During this time, he established himself as one of the best strikers in the league, netting an impressive 181 goals and 54 assists in just 271 games. (h/t Transfermarkt)
One of the teams in the fray for his signature is United. While Berbatov agrees that finalizing a deal could prove difficult, he has no doubt that Aguero would be a success at Old Trafford.
“I would absolutely take him at Manchester United. Despite his connection to City and everything he has done there he is a player you can not hate.”
Aguero has largely been a player who keeps away from controversy. He usually lets his performances on the field do the talking and has been successful in that.
Despite Aguero’s advanced age, Berbatov believes the Argentine still has enough in his locker to make a difference for United. Players older than him, namely Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani, have both impressed for the Red Devils.
An eye for an eye?
Berbatov realizes Aguero’s loyalty to City and admits it will most likely prevent him from donning their arch rival’s colours. As things stand, Barcelona are leading the race to sign the player in the summer.
“I think Aguero would be a good addition to United but I can’t see it happening because of his loyalty to City.”
Berbatov believes United signing Aguero would be revenge for Carlos Tevez going the other way in 2009. But unlike Tevez, Aguero has little to prove.
“Maybe it was for some kind of statement to United, you could say revenge.”

Despite our rivalry, it would be ungracious of us to deny Aguero the respect he deserves. A modern great, he will depart the Etihad as one of the finest strikers ever to grace the league.
It will certainly be intriguing to see him don a United jersey. Stranger things have happened in football and it remains to be seen if this is something we are willing to pursue.
