Sergio Romero could have his wife standing between him and a Manchester United exit
According to Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo (h/t The Sun), goalkeeper Sergio Romero could have his Manchester United exit sabotaged by his wife, Eliana Guercio.
Romero has been a loyal No.2 for United since his transfer from Sampdoria in the summer of 2014. But that changed when he was displaced by Dean Henderson last year.
And the 34-year-old was linked with an exit from Old Trafford in order to secure first-team football, with several teams, including Everton, interested in his services. No move materialized, however, and he stayed put.
This irked his wife, who asked the club to show ‘respect’ to Romero as she posted a rant on her social media account.
“Sergio Romero worked hard for his club. Last trophy they won, they lifted it with him. He helped the team reach four finals/semi-finals and then he was on the bench, only to lose them all. It is time for them to return the opportunity and let him go. RESPECT FOR ONCE!!!!”
The couple seemed to get their wish this year as Romero has been heavily linked with a transfer to Argentine giants, Boca Juniors. He is currently in Argentina with his family and reportedly even said goodbye to teammates ahead of a possible move.
And the exit looked even likelier when he put his £3.5million mansion up for sale. But it seems that Guercia, 43, has had a change of heart, and could prevent an exit from Old Trafford as she wants to stay in Europe.

This seems like a strange situation because Romero is going to out of contract in the summer. And if his wife is now supportive of a stay in Manchester, then the situation can get messy for the parties involved.
