Transfer News: Manchester United keeping tabs on League one ace Toby Savin
According to an interesting transfer news piece from The Sun, Manchester United have been keeping tabs on Accrington Stanley goalkeeper Toby Savin.
The 19-year-old enjoyed spells in the academies at Southport, Wigan Athletic, Everton and Crewe Alexandra before joining Accrington in 2017. He eventually went on to pen professional terms with the club in 2019. He has since made 26 appearances for them, keeping eight clean sheets. (h/t Transfermarkt)
While his numbers aren’t the greatest, he has shown enough promise to interest both United and Newcastle. At 6ft 4in, Savin is a giant of a man who can be a difference-maker between the sticks.
Savin is now the first-choice goalkeeper for the League One side and has made 24 appearances in all competitions, keeping seven clean sheets. (h/t Transfermarkt)
His current deal at the Crown Ground runs until 2023 and gives Accrington a little leeway in negotiations.
Manchester United goalkeeping scout Tony Coton watched the youngster play and it would appear he has seen something that he liked. Whether Savin has impressed enough for United to have a closer look remains to be seen.
The Red Devils look set for a summer cull of their goalkeeping department. The likes of Sergio Romero, Joel Pereira and Paul Woolston are also set to depart the Theatre of Dreams.
There are also growing doubts about the future of David de Gea, who could call time on his time at the club. Who the club chooses to bring in remains to be seen.

Savin could turn out to be a decent player and is better served currently staying put at Accrington. Although he is at a lower league team, he is able to garner regular game time and can develop away from the spotlight.
If he continues doing well, there is no reason why there won’t be any interest in him in the future.
