Transfer News: Erling Haaland could be about to spurn Manchester United for the second time in two years
Despite heavy links, there is always some bad news that appears to come out of the blue regarding Erling Haaland and his transfer to Manchester United.
The Red Devils missed a golden opportunity to sign him on the cheap in 2018 and was spurned in favour of a move to Borussia Dortmund last year. As sailors believes bad things happen in threes and in this case we appear to be heading towards a third strike.
According to Spanish publication Marca (h/t Daily Mail), the player is in favour of a move to Real Madrid in the upcoming summer. The La Liga champions may be set for a dream summer as they target for Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.
Haaland planned to spend another season with Dortmund before moving onto bigger and better things in 2022. However, his prolific form has sped up that timeline by a year.
A number of clubs including United and Manchester City were amongst those seeking the Norwegian wonderkid. However, his agent Mino Raiola now appears to be working on a deal to take his client to Santiago Bernabeu.
The Spaniards too are aware of Haaland’s intentions and could be set for negotiations soon. To add further pain, City are aware of Real’s interest and have been in touch with Haaland’s representatives.
The odd team out
United now appear to be the odd team out and could even struggle to pay the player’s £90m release clause in one go.
With the trio of Anthony Martial, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood all failing to stay fit or score regularly, the onus of scoring has fallen on Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.
Bringing in a prolific striker isn’t just a luxury but a necessity this summer. Failing to do so could see us face the same struggles up front going into next season.
