Player News: Solskjaer confirms that Manchester United in talks with Edinson Cavani
According to the Metro, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has fresh news regarding the future of Edinson Cavani at Manchester United.
The 34-year-old signed for the club on deadline day last summer. His initial one year deal is set to expire at the end of the season. While United do have the option to extend it by another year, there have been conflicting reports on the contrary.
Solskjaer has now confirmed that the club is talking to Cavani regarding his future.
“We’re speaking to Eddy.”
While the Norwegian’s comments do not give anything away as to the player’s decision, it is encouraging to see that efforts are being made behind the scenes.
Solskjaer appears to be bracing himself for any eventuality and admits that the player and the club share a good relationship. Whether this is strong enough to guarantee continues co-operation is another matter.
“Edinson is a top striker and whatever he decides to do, let’s see. We’re in good dialogue with him.”
A prolific striker is a priority!
The United boss also went on to add that having a striker who can score regularly is on the club’s agenda. Cavani has impressed but is far from the out-and-out striker that United need.
“We want a competitive squad and we need someone up there to score the goals for us..”
More so, at 34 the Uruguayan is not a long term option. His age appears to be catching up with him as he also continues to struggle with injuries. It is fair to say that the veteran’s contributions aren’t exactly in line with his status as the fourth-highest earner at the club.

While we believe keeping Cavani and bringing in another striker is the best way forward, losing the Uruguayan is not the worst outcome.
At the very least it creates cap space for us to bring in a younger striker who can lead the line with style and consistency.
