Transfer News: Manchester United offered the chance to sign Rodrigo Bentancur
According to Italian transfer news outlet La Gazzetta Dello Sport via ilBianconero, Juventus are ready to listen to offers for Rodrigo Bentancur, a player who was formerly linked with Manchester United.
Speaking to Spanish publication Marca (h/t ESPN) in 2016, the player had admitted that the Red Devils were his favourite European team.
The 23-year-old joined Juventus from Boca Juniors back in 2017. He has so far made 143 appearances for the Turin giants, scoring three goals and assisting 14. (h/t Transfermarkt)
A central midfielder who can also play a defensive role, the Uruguayan has shown he has an eye for goal. He came into his own in the 2019/20 campaign even keeping the seasoned Miralem Pjanic out of the Juventus line-up.
However, this season has presented a different picture. He has failed to show consistency and looked out of sorts. His misplaced pass led to Porto’s opener in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie last month.
He is not considered unsellable and can be acquired in the upcoming summer for €35million.
A ready-made solution?
Bentancur could provide United with a ready-made solution in a position they should look at strengthening. Paul Pogba’s future is up in the air while Nemanja Matic is not getting any younger.
The Serbian has also been linked with a return to Benfica in the summer. In Bentancur, United will be getting a player with much potential and the best years ahead of him. Whether they will eventually rekindle their interest in him remains to be seen.

With Juventus also holding an interest in Pogba, we might just be able to convince them to offer the player plus cash for the World Cup winning Frenchman.
Bentancur is already a full international for Uruguay and has so far won 33 caps. Having won trophies at both Boca and Juventus, he would bring in much experience to the Red Devils midfield.
