Transfer News: Manchester United to spend as much as £43million to land Saul Niguez
According to Spanish news publication La Razon (h/t The Express), Manchester United could make a splash this summer transfer window by landing Saul Niguez.
The Spanish international is a key member of Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid side. The Spaniards do not appear to be averse to sell him and may already have a replacement lined up.
The Red Devils’ interest in the player is not new. The player too was pleased with the rumours and admitted it was an honour to be associated with United.
The Red Devils have earmarked a maximum of £43million to land the midfielder. Given the current financial crisis, placing an upper limit on the fee is understandable.
United, at this moment in time, are the only side to enter the fray for Niguez. For now, it would appear we have a clean run.
One major drawback is the player’s massive release clause of £130m. It does not take a mathematician to see that we fall some way off that valuation. With five years left on his current deal, Atletico also hold the aces when it comes to negotiations.
A transfer domino effect!
Niguez appears keen to leave and it remains to be seen how much of a hit Atletico are willing to take to let it happen. For one, they have already earmarked Napoli ace Fabian Ruiz as his replacement.
The 24-year-old is also valued at £43m. Technically, one could argue it is a three team player swap. Atletico has failed to replace Thomas Partey who left the club for Arsenal last summer. His absence has been visible, especially in the Champions League loss to Chelsea this week.
