Manchester United duo Jesse Lingard and Luke Shaw picked for England duty
According to the BBC, England manager Gareth Southgate has good news for Manchester United duo Jesse Lingard and Luke Shaw.
Both players are in good form and have been selected for the Three Lions squad for the upcoming international break. England are set for a triple header in their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Southgate’s side face off against San Marino, Albania and Poland in the next fortnight. While the Poles could prove to be a challenge, the Three Lions will be expected to win the remaining two games.
United signing Alex Telles appears to have lit a fire under Shaw. The left-back is now an automatic first choice for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and has proven to be consistent.
The 25-year-old has won eight caps for England with his last cap coming in September 2018. A return to the international fold is a reward for a player who appears to be back to his best.
The same can be said for Lingard, who has impressed on loan at West Ham United. The 28-year-old’s return to the international fold was something inexplicable as far back as last December.
To his credit, he has made the most of his opportunity and is now also set to be rewarded by Southgate.
Lingard has so far won 24 caps for England and was a part of the Three Lions squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. His last appearance for his country was in 2019. He is now about to set that record straight.
