Transfer News: Manchester United ready to part ways with two first-team stars to land Erling Haaland
According to Manchester Evening News, news of Manchester United attempting to complete a transfer for Erling Haaland just refuses to die down.
The 20-year-old has been continually linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time now. With the club’s strikers failing to hit a prolific streak, the time may be now for us to bring in potentially the best young forward on the planet.
The Borussia Dortmund ace is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top summer target. Signing him will not be easy given Dortmund’s asking price and also the number of teams vying for him.
The Red Devils came close to landing Haaland in January 2020, only for him to move to the Bundesliga. The Red Devils blame his agent Mino Raiola for the snub. It is fair to say that the superagent is not the most popular man in Manchester. (h/t The Express)
However, with a new summer comes new possibilities and the Red Devils are ready to part with two of their top earners to free up money for Haaland.
Both Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani are among the club’s top four earners. Getting rid of them would free up an impressive £450,000-a-week in wages. The club hopes to use this money to lure Haaland to the Theatre of Dreams. (h/t The Express)
A saga of expiring contracts
Pogba’s contract expires next summer and the club will be best-served parting ways with him this summer. This represents the best chance United now have to get top dollar for the Frenchman.
Cavani’s contract meanwhile expires this summer. While the club does have the option to extend it, they are currently uncertain about doing so, thanks to his injuries.
It promises to be an intriguing summer at Old Trafford.
