Harry Maguire pushing Manchester United to sign Ben White in the summer transfer window
Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t SportsMole), Duncan Castles has revealed that Harry Maguire is keen to see Ben White make the move to Manchester United.
The Red Devils are in the market for a central defender going into the summer transfer window. White is a player whose name has featured in transfer news related to the Old Trafford based side.
As per the report, Maguire has given his blessings for the club to push through and sign the Brighton and Hove Albion star.
The 23-year-old is enjoying his first full season in the top-flight. Having impressed with Leeds United in the Championship last season, White returned to Brighton and Hove Albion with his reputation enhanced.
While this season has not been smooth sailing, White has formed a decent partnership with Lewis Dunk and has shown the potential to be a hit in the top-flight.
Graham Potter’s side play some wonderful football but have been largely unable to eke out the results they deserve. Currently three points off the bottom three, the Seagulls have a fight on their hands.
United, meanwhile, continue to be linked with La Liga duo Jules Kounde and Pau Torres. The former is the club’s priority but his £72million asking priece could prove to be an issue.
White is comparatively cheaper but will still set the club back around £42million. If the deal goes through, he will become the second most expensive centre-back in United history, behind Maguire.

White is one of the best young English defenders in the game. However, while there is ability, he is not yet worthy of the price tag Brighton are seeking for him.
The Red Devils already overpaid once to land Maguire. While he has been decent, it would be a travesty to suggest he is worthy of the title of the world’s most expensive defender.
Whether the club will follow their skipper’s suggestion and land White remains to be seen.
