Shola Shoretire wins Premier League 2 Player of the Month for February

A report by the official club website mentions that Manchester United striker Shola Shoretire has won the Premier League 2 Player of the Month for February 2021.

The 17-year-old had a big month as he signed his first professional contract with the club. He featured in two games for the U-23 side where he grabbed a hat-trick and an assist against Blackburn U-23 in a 6-4 win, and a goal against the Gunners U-23 side in a 3-0 victory.

He made his senior debut for the club in the Premier League and UEFA Europa League as well. Shoretire came on as a substitute against Newcastle United and Real Sociedad. (h/t Transfermarkt)

He is the first U-23 United player to win the award this season. However, players such as Joe Hugill and Arnau Puigmal were earlier nominated for the award this season.

One for the future

March has also been a good year for the young striker. He was an unused substitute against Crystal Palace, Manchester City, and West Ham United, while also making the bench in the big European game against AC Milan.

While he may not be getting a lot of game time with the senior team just yet, the 17-year-old would be content with being a regular in the matchday squads in recent weeks.

His versatility is also something that can come in handy for Manchester United as time goes on. The youngster has played on both wings, as a centre-forward, and also in central midfield this season.

More Manchester United News:

However, he is a natural attacker with an eye for goal. With Edinson Cavani not getting any younger and Anthony Martial having an underwhelming season, maybe Shoretire could follow in the footsteps of Mason Greenwood and make a place for himself in the senior side soon.
