Manchester United uncertain about extending Edinson Cavani stay
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are having second thoughts over extending the stay of Edinson Cavani. The club are said to be frustrated over his recent injury layoff even after his return from a longer one.
Despite returning against Crystal Palace, he was hooked off after 74 mins and did not play in the subsequent games against Man City and AC Milan. He is also a doubt for the next game against West Ham on Sunday.
Cavani joined United last summer, initially on a one-year deal. The club does have the option to extend the deal by another year but both parties need to agree on the same. The whole situation has not been helped by his father’s statements.
The 34-year-old has been in the eye of the storm after his father admitted that he could be on the way back to South America in the summer. Argentine giants Boca Juniors have been heavily linked with his services.
There were also concerns from his father about the whole social media incident that led to his suspension in November.
While Cavani is not a long-term option, his presence was needed at this time when Marcus Rashford is out injured and Anthony Martial’s goals have dried up. His experience and ability have also acted as inspiration for the young talents coming through the ranks at United.

It will be one situation to keep an eye out on till the end of the season. Obviously, his stay being extended would be a good move but in case he departs, the club might just have to accelerate their plans to sign a new striker.
