Eric Bailly wants Solskjaer to come clean regarding his future at Manchester United
According to The Sun, Manchester United star Eric Bailly is seeking clarification from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer regarding his future at the club.
The Ivory Coast international has struggled to retain a place in the first-team. While injuries have played a major part in his predicament, it is fair to say he is not an automatic starter.
Bailly’s contract at United expires in 2022 and the club will have a decision to make sooner or later.
Bailly has made a mere 14 appearances for United all season. He was an unused substitute once again at the weekend against Manchester City. It was the fourth time in the last five Premier League games that it has happened. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The duo of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire appears to be Solskjaer’s first-choice centre-back pairing. Both players continue to be given the nod despite their errors, perhaps prompting Bailly to state he is the victim of unequal treatment at the club. The report quotes a source from the Manchester United dressing room.
“Eric doesn’t feel he has any trust from Ole and he thinks that’s unfair.”
The rebound?
Bailly is hurt by Solskjaer’s lack of trust in him and is keen to set the record straight. It would appear that the issue is a long-standing one that dates back to last season’s Europa League semifinal.
“He wants the coach to have confidence in him and back him up but he feels he isn’t being protected at all and that hurts.”
Lindelof got the nod over Bailly that night and notably went on to have a tiff with Bruno Fernandes after Sevilla had taken the lead on the night.
According to the report, Bailly believes his only hope of playing for United is if Lindelof is ruled out. He believes Solskjaer continues to use his injury as an excuse to leave him out even though he is now fit.
“If he was left out because he was making mistakes he would understand it but that’s not the case. Eric just wants to feel appreciated by the manager and the club.”
