Bruno Fernandes hits back at Roy Keane criticism
Bruno Fernandes responded to Roy Keane and his criticism after the Manchester derby (h/t Express). The former Manchester United captain branded Fernandes as a ‘baby’ after the derby.
Manchester United stunned City in emphatic fashion as Fernandes slotted home a penalty two minutes into the game. Luke Shaw closed the proceedings in the second half with another goal to cut down City’s 14-point gap to 11 and also ended their 21-game win streak.
Prior to the derby, Fernandes’ form was a hot topic for discussion as he had failed to score or assist a goal against any of the ‘big six’ apart from one penalty against Tottenham.
The Portuguese did turn up against City with another penalty but more importantly, he played with the usual verve that he is known for. However, Keane was still not impressed with Fernandes as he wanted him to focus more on the field.
“I know players are under pressure to do interviews and respond to criticism, but just get on with it. Don’t be such a baby.”
Fernandes didn’t hold back though, as he responded with a cheeky jibe at Keane.
“It’s always pressure to take a pen, doesn’t matter if it’s against City, or another team. It’s always pressure to take the pens. I like that kind of pressure. It’s good pressure.
I knew what I had to do. I did it in the right way with the right power and I’m happy to score, of course. Honestly for us it’s about winning. People will always complain about everything. Today it will still be Bruno never scores in big games.”

While Keane’s words do make sense, it’s important to understand how good Fernandes has been since joining the club. Yes, he is yet to score from open play in a big-six game but if his showing against City is anything to go by, Manchester United shouldn’t worry too much.
