Solskjaer has regular contact with Man United target Erling Haaland
According to ESPN (h/t Daily Star), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been in regular contact with Erling Haaland who has been linked with Manchester United. The Red Devils want to sign a striker who can solve their issues in the long term. While Edinson Cavani was brought in this season, his age means that United still need to look at a younger option.
Erling Haaland is a name that has done the rounds for them given the club tried to sign him from RB Salzburg in January 2020. He decided to join Borussia Dortmund in the end and the 20-year old has been ridiculously prolific since joining the German club over a year ago.
There are more clubs in the running to sign Haaland. Premier League League rivals Manchester City and Chelsea are in for him while Real Madrid have also been deemed as suitors.
However, Solskjaer has kept regular contact with the Norwegian, given the pair had worked together at Molde.
“When you have had kids and players through as a coach, you follow them and I keep in touch with Erling. It’s great to see him become the player he has become and [how] he works to improve all the time. He’s a Dortmund player – we just wish him well there and let’s see what life will bring later on.”
However, one sticking point would be the fact that his agent is Mino Raiola. The ‘super agent’ is a much-maligned figure at Old Trafford given the history with regards to Red Devils’ midfielder Paul Pogba. He was responsible for his exit in 2012, a then world-record return in 2016 and constant bickering about the Frenchman’s future at the club.

It remains to be seen if United go up against the elite clubs after him. With a long-standing interest in Haaland, Manchester United could choose to splash the cash but should be wary of doing business again with someone like Mino Raiola.
