Juan Mata ruled out for Manchester United as Chelsea clash looms

According to Manchester Evening News, Juan Mata will not be part of the Manchester United squad that will travel, to London to take on Chelsea on Sunday.

The 32-year-old will now be out of action for a fortnight. He will now join Paul Pogba and potentially Daniel James on the sidelines.

Mata’s contract at United runs out at the end of the season. While the club does have the option to extend his stay by another year, it remains to be seen if they will make use of it.

The veteran midfielder has been out of action for the club for the last few weeks. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to give the exact details but admitted that the player was ‘away’.

He is now expected to miss the games against Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Manchester City. Mata will also miss United’s Europa League Round-of-16 first leg clash against AC Milan.

Injuries have caught up with the club in recent weeks. The likes of Edinson Cavani, Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay are also a doubt for the clash against Chelsea.

The likes of Cavani, Pogba and recently James have all shown their worth and have made a difference to the team on the field. Losing the in-form trio at such a crucial juncture in the season is not ideal.

Hopefully, the rest of the players will step up and ensure we don’t miss our injured stars too much.

Chelsea are unbeaten under Thomas Tuchel and come into the game in high spirits. The Blues won away against Atletico Madrid midweek, something not many teams can claim to have done. Hopefully, the Red Devils will give them a reality check and bring them down back to earth.
