Solskjaer: Manchester United star Paul Pogba set for an extended spell on the sidelines
Speaking to BT Sport (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Paul Pogba is still weeks away from returning to action.
The French ace has not featured for United since being taken off with a thigh injury against Everton earlier this month. He has since missed five games and the Red Devils have struggled to replace him.
The 27-year-old was one of our in-form players and had rediscovered his scoring touch. The untimely injury has thrown a dagger into what was an unlikely Premier League title bid.
“Paul is still out for a few weeks.”
Solskjaer had admitted last week that Pogba would not play again in February. The Norwegian however expected to have his star man back in early March.
It would appear that the United boss jumped the gun with his initial expectations. The midfielder will only return to action in mid-March at the earliest.
Hopefully, other players will step up and ensure they make up for Pogba’s absence. With the season winding to a close, the Frenchman’s return should give us the impetus for a final push for glory.
Solskjaer did have good news regarding United’s other injured stars. Donny van de Beek, Edinson Cavani and Scott McTominay are all in contention to face Chelsea at the weekend.
“Scott, Donny, Edinson – we hope they can be available for the weekend.”
The Blues have impressed under Thomas Tuchel and are coming off an impressive 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. It promises to be an intriguing contest.
