Manchester United keen to extend Edinson Cavani contract

According to Sky Sports, Edinson Cavani could be all set for contract extension talks with Manchester United. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that the club will soon hold discussions with the 34-year-old regarding prolonging his one-year stay at the club.

United signed the former PSG striker on a free transfer last summer and handed him a one-year deal. They do have an option of extending it by another season though. So far, Cavani has managed to produce decent numbers for Manchester United with 7 goals and 2 assists in 24 games.

Cavani is currently out injured with a muscle injury and subsequently missed the Europa League clash with Real Sociedad. Solskjaer has spoken about a possible extension and that discussions are taking place regarding the same.

“I can only say Edinson has done well for us, I’ve been impressed with him and he’s gelled really well with the group.

“We’ll sit down with him and speak with him in the near future, of course, to see his plans and our plans. You always speak to your players and with his contract situation, we’re very pleased with what he’s done.”

Solskjaer also spoke about the title race with Man City 10 points ahead of United. He may not have ruled out a possible title challenge but talked about how their form has dipped in recent weeks and the team had dropped vital points.
