Manchester United manager Solskjaer keeping tabs on Erling Haaland
Speaking to Norwegian outlet VG (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that he keeps tabs on his former protege Erling Haaland at Borussia Dortmund.
The duo was together during the player’s formative years at Molde. He eventually moved to RB Salzburg, where he went on to alert top clubs to his terrifying potential.
Still just 20, Haaland has led the Dortmund line with aplomb and continues to see his reputation soar. With 38 goals and nine assists in just 40 appearances, the striker is proving he is the real deal. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Haaland was linked with United before he swapped Salzburg for Dortmund in January 2020. The Red Devils continue to be linked to the striker who could be on the move come next summer. (h/t The Sun)
Asked about the possibility of him moving to United, Solskjaer went on to admit that he keeps a close eye on his former protege’s progress. As a Norwegian himself, he has ho doubts that his countryman will go on to have an excellent career.
“I’m following Erling. I’ve always said that. Was it 18 months we had together or something? Almost two years, maybe.”
Wait and watch
Solskjaer refused to give a clear answer regarding any potential summer move for Haaland. He has left the decision to the player and has not given away much.
“Where does he end up? I do not want to say anything other than that, that I wish him all the best. Which choice he makes may be up to him.”
The Norwegian ace is also managed by superagent Mino Raiola, the same man who represents Paul Pogba. It is fair to say that United do not have the best relationship with the wheeling-dealing Italian.

Edinson Cavani has been a shrewd signing largely compensating for Anthony Martial’s loss of form. However, the Uruguayan is not a long-term solution at 34 years of age.
United will need to bring in a new striker and there are few better at what they do than Haaland. Whether a reunion with Solskjaer is on the cards remains to be seen.
