Dimitar Berbatov compares Manchester United star Scott McTominay to Frank Lampard
Speaking to Betfair (h/t The Metro) former Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov has lavished praise on Red Devils star Scott McTominay.
The 24-year-old has emerged as a key player for United this season. The Scot has made 30 appearances for the club this season, scoring seven goals and one assist. (h/t Transfermarkt)
McTominay has stepped up this season when needed. He was on the scoresheet against West Ham United in the FA Cup. The winner against the Hammers was his third goal in three games as he continues to enjoy a mean streak.
Berbatov was impressed with McTominay’s movement against the Hammers. His roving run into the box reminded him of the ones Frank Lampard was synonymous with at Chelsea.
“His goal against West Ham in the cup reminded me of the kind of goals that Frank Lampard would score, coming late into the box and smashing it into the net with a great finish.”
An established scorer, the Blues legend is one of the best goalscoring midfielders in Premier League history. The prospect of McTominay following in his footsteps is an exciting thought.
The United DNA
McTominay’s forays forward have brought in more success in recent years. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently admitted that it is a position the Scot could find himself occupying regularly in the future.
Berbatov too sees the 24-year-old continue to thrive in an attacking role. He also believes that McTominay has it in him to take on the United armband one day.
“I see him as a future United captain one day.”
