Solskjaer provides update on Paul Pogba injury against Everton
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an injury update on Paul Pogba. The Frenchman appeared to have picked up a knock in the Red Devils’ 3-3 draw against Everton on Saturday.
A frustrating night at home for United was heightened when the 27-year-old collapsed to the ground in the dying stages of the first half. The problem was apparently caused when Pogba seemed to have overstretched himself while trying to pass the ball.
That saw Pogba grimacing in pain and indicating immediately to Solskjaer that he would need to be replaced. And the manager has now revealed that the World Cup winner suffered a thigh injury. The full extent of this will be determined only after a medical scan.
“Thigh, yeah,” Solskjaer told MUTV commentator Stewart Gardner.
“It looks like a muscle injury, so we’ve just got to check him up tomorrow and have a scan and get him treatment. Hopefully, he’ll recover quickly.”
That marks a disappointing start to the month for Pogba, who was voted United’s Player of the Month for January. The midfielder scored in wins over Fulham and Burnley, enjoying a stellar start to the new year.
Pogba has been instrumental in United’s surge for the Premier League crown this season. The 27-year-old has played 28 times in all competitions, contributing with 4 goals and 3 assists in the process.
He has, however, had a few issues with injury, having spent time on the sidelines with an ankle problem back in November.
It remains to be seen whether Pogba would be back in contention when United play host to West Ham in the FA Cup fifth-round on Tuesday night.
