Robin van Persie heaps the praise on Bruno Fernandes after Everton draw

Former Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie has hailed Bruno Fernandes for his display in the Red Devils’ 3-3 draw against Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday night.

It was a disappointing night for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side as the hosts blew away their lead twice, squandering a golden opportunity to stay on par with Man City at the top.

Fernandes doubled United’s advantage just at the stroke of half time, bamboozling Everton goalkeeper Robin Olsen with a curling effort from outside the box.

That put the Red Devils in a position of strength against Carlo Ancelotti’s side but the hosts were eventually undone by some lacklustre defending after the interval.

Regardless of the result, Van Persie has sung praises of the Portuguese international on Twitter (h/t Daily Star). The Dutchman also teased the fans on social media, wondering how many goals he’d have scored had he played alongside Fernandes at Old Trafford.

“Bruno Fernandes ladies & gentleman,” wrote Van Persie on Twitter, along with a fire emoji.

“What a joy to watch him play! Just wondering… how many goals for RvP with him in midfield..?”

Indeed, Fernandes deserves all the credit in the world for a goal of supreme quality against the Toffees.

The 26-year-old registered his 13th strike of the season in the Premier League this season to go along with 9 assists, putting him ahead of any other midfielder in Europe’s elite leagues.

Bruno has been an irrepressible force behind United’s resurgence since joining the club from Sporting Lisbon last year in January.

The Athletic (h/t Manchester Evening News) recently reported that the club are working hard to tie the Portuguese star down to a new contract with improved terms.
