Manchester United defender Alex Tuanzebe and the club’s Women forward Lauren James, the sister of Chelsea right-back Reece James, have been the latest victims of racist abuse from keyboard warriors on the social media platform.
The FA have issued a statement in their support, condemning the discrimination and calling on the government to punish the prosecutors. The governing body of English football have also promised to stamp such discrimination out of the game to uphold its integrity.
Tuanzebe and James aren’t the only Premier League stars to face online racial abuse in recent weeks. United’s own Marcus Rashford, Southampton’s Alexandre Jankewitz and West Brom midfielder Romaine Sawyers are among those to report the same. (h/t Daily Mail)
The respective clubs flagged those tweets containing monkey emojis, calling upon the social media heavyweights to take necessary action. However, Twitter’s stance on the matter left them stunned as the company didn’t consider the usage of such emoji had anything to do with racial discrimination. (h/t Daily Mail)
