Manchester United fans accuse Fernandinho of mocking Munich Air Disaster
Man City captain Fernandinho is facing the wrath of the Manchester United fans after he appeared to mock the Munich Air Disaster with an ill-timed tweet. The veteran midfielder posted images of him on Twitter celebrating a goal in training with his arms outstretched like an aeroplane.
In what could well be an unfortunate coincidence, this Saturday marked the 63rd anniversary of the Munich disaster, a tragedy that remains a sensitive topic among the United fanbase to date.
The plane carrying home United’s famous ‘Busby Babes’ crashed moments after taking off from Germany, killing 8 players and 23 in total. They are since remembered at Old Trafford on every anniversary.
Fernandinho later deleted the Twitter post, that also included aeroplane and explosion emojis. While it’s understood that the Brazilian meant no malice and his tweet bore no connotations to the Munich Air Disaster, the United fans are having none of it.
Several fans have called for the FA to intervene and take serious action on the 35-year-old. Premier League stars like Edinson Cavani and City’s own Bernardo Silva have faced sanctions from the governing body due to inappropriate social media activity in recent times.
