There is no doubt that United fans finally have something to be excited about after watching rivals City and Liverpool getting all the accolades recently.

Being unbeaten in five games before a shock loss to Sheffield United and a draw at Arsenal, Solskjær and his men have come a long way. However, the team is nowhere near a finished product that could consistently win games at the highest level.

The results of this vast improvement in form can be seen in the where Utd are currently second favourites to be champions, after City. It’s still early days yet though and no team has taken control of the league at this point.

Interestingly, one of the players who has most contributed to United’s current run of good form is the controversial Paul Pogba. It seems a long way from all the talk of him leaving, back in December.

So, is Pogba still on his way and how much will Utd’s league finish dictate the decision?

Controversial comments by Mino Raiola in December

United fans clearly recall the comments made by Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, In December 2020. He spoke of Pogba being unhappy at the club and needing to leave.

Needless to say, this did not go down well with Solskjær who made it quite clear that he had no intention of speaking to Raiola. Former players also spoke out against the agent’s comments with Jamie Carragher stating that Pogba was “not worth the hassle”.

At the time, Pogba had started only five games in the Premier League for Utd this season after testing positive for Covid-19.

However, much has changed since then and the Frenchman is one of the team’s most in-form players right now. So, will this change the situation concerning a new contract?

Pogba sitting on the fence

Recently Pogba talked about being happy at United but he still did not go as far as to say he wanted to stay. He merely spoke about being under contract at the club and that he was enjoying playing football right now.

Interestingly, Pogba also talked about his ambitions to win. Utd fans can look at this in two ways. Obviously, it’s good to have a dedicated and committed Pogba in the team and scoring.

On the other hand, if United do not win this season, will the player decide that he needs to look elsewhere for the medals he craves?

This is an important question as Pogba only has 18 months left on his contract. This means that the club may be forced to sell him this summer or risk him going on a free transfer next season.

The truth is that even if United do triumph in the league, Pogba may want to leave on a high and the club may want to part ways, especially after all the controversy.

The coming months will tell fans all they need to know about whether Paul Pogba will be a United player next season. Up to now, the odds seemed to be in favour of him heading out of the door but given his current form who knows.

Is the commitment aimed at attracting interest from elsewhere or may he consider committing his immediate future to United, if a contract can be agreed?
