West Ham United enter the race for Manchester United outcast Jesse Lingard
According to The Mirror, David Moyes’ West Ham United have entered the race for Manchester United outcast Jesse Lingard.
The 28-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and is considering his options. A regular under both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, Lingard has struggled to hold onto a spot under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He has made just three appearances this season. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Lingard was also not included in the matchday squad to face Liverpool in the FA Cup yesterday. He instead reported for training with other fringe players.
A number of clubs are keen to secure the Englishman’s services. The likes of Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion are also keeping tabs on his situation at Old Trafford.
While the aforementioned two clubs are keen on a loan deal, the Hammers are interested in signing the versatile attacker in a permanent deal. Given his position at United, it is fair to assume he has no long-term future at the club. (h/t The Mirror)
Moyes managed Lingard during his brief stint as United manager in 2013/14. It is fair to say that the player left a good impression on the former United boss during the club’s pre-season tour.
Instead of fast-tracking him into the first-team, Moyes sent Lingard out on loan to Birmingham and Brighton in the Championship. His breakthrough into the United first-team came under Moyes’ successor, Louis van Gaal.
The Hammers boss could finally reunite with the attacker, eight years later. United for their part are open to letting the player leave.
