Manchester United fans react as Bruno Fernandes scores a freekick to down Liverpool
Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes had a point to prove against Liverpool.
The midfielder was taken off late on at Anfield after what was a display consigned to the garbage bin. He barely got going and was largely overshadowed in the midfield battle. A performance that left him frustrated.
As they say, form may be temporary but class is permanent. The Portuguese international proved just that last night at Old Trafford.
The 26-year-old started on the bench but was brought on midway through the second half. His moment came in the 78th minute after Edinson Cavani was fouled just outside the penalty box.
With the game tied at 2-2, the next goal would likely prove to be the decider. Fernandes ensured that was the case as he hit the ball past a helpless Alisson Becker.
It was a moment to savour as the Portuguese star showed he is as effective at freekicks as he is with penalties. It capped off a triumphant night as United got their first win against Liverpool since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival.
The Red Devils will now face West Ham United in the fifth round.
