Solskjaer gives updated Manchester United team news ahead of crunch Liverpool clash
Speaking in an interview (h/t Manchester Evening News) ahead of the derby, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said that Manchester United have “as many injuries” as Liverpool as he gave the latest team news.
There was a minor injury scare in the Premier League game against Burnley earlier this week. Anthony Martial and Nemanja Matic both appeared to have had a muscle injury during the match.
Martial was substituted late on against Sean Dyche’s side, leaving many to wonder if he would be fit to play against second-placed Liverpool on Sunday.
Solskjaer admitted that United had a few knocks at Turf Moor, but said that he would give his players time to prove their fitness ahead of the derby.
“I’ll give everyone tomorrow to prove their fitness to get a chance to go to that game. There are a couple of knocks that we got at Burnley that I’m not sure about.”
A chance to pull clear at the top
Phil Jones is not in United’s Premier League squad for the season. Apart from the English centre-back, Brandon Williams is also out for the game with an injury.
The United manager confirmed that the duo is certain to miss the game. However, he mentioned that Martial is still in a race to feature against the Reds and is not out of contention.
“Anthony is not out of it. The only ones certainly out are Brandon and Phil Jones.”
The team news is definitely uplifting with United not missing any of their main players ahead of the all-important derby. The news on Martial is also positive as he is not ruled out completely.
