Timothy Fosu-Mensah looking to leave Manchester United after rejecting new contract
A report by Daily Mail states that Manchester United youngster Timothy Fosu-Mensah has rejected a new contract ahead of the January transfer window.
The Red Devils offered the 22-year-old a 3-year contract, which he rejected. Fosu-Mensah is in the last few months of his contract which expires in the summer of 2021.
This leaves the Dutchman free to negotiate a pre-agreement with other clubs in January over a summer move. United can still demand compensation for any move that sees him leave Old Trafford.
The Dutchman, who has 3 international caps, is now looking for his next move. Several Premier League clubs are interested alongside Ligue 1 duo AS Monaco and Marseille and Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin.
It is not surprising that the former Ajax youngster, who arrived at United 6 years ago, wants a move. He has made just one league appearance this season, which came on the opening day of the season.
Lack of playing time
On top of that, his only other two appearances this campaign came off the bench in the Champions League. Before this season, Fosu-Mensah failed to cement himself as a genuine contender for regular starts.
He played just 6 matches last season and was loaned to Fulham and Crystal Palace before that. While he hasn’t featured regularly for United, he has definitely offered great cover at the back.
The versatile defender can play centre-back and right-back. The fact that United offered him a contract shows that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had plans for him in the future.
