Nicolo Zaniolo not keen to leave Roma despite Manchester United interest
Manchester United were among the clubs keeping a keen eye on AS Roma wonderkid Nicolo Zaniolo.
The 21-year-old has been a revelation since moving to the Stadio Olimpico in 2018. He has gone on to make 69 appearances while scoring 14 goals and assisting six. Zaniolo is also the youngest Italian player to score a brace in the UEFA Champions League. (h/t BBC)
A versatile player, Zaniolo can fulfil a variety of roles in midfield and the attack. The youngster has also attracted attention from Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Juventus. (h/t The Express)
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Zaniolo has confirmed that he will not be leaving the club next summer despite interest from England.
The 21-year-old has been ruled out until at least March 2021 after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament last September. It is the second time that he has sustained such an injury in two years.
The player expects to return to action by April and is hopeful of making next summer’s European championship.
With the player revealing his decision in no uncertain terms, it would appear that United will need to wait a while before making a move for his signature.
Still just 21, Zaniolo has his whole career ahead of him. A player with a very high ceiling, it remains to be seen how he performs upon his return from injury.
The youngster’s progress in Italy also saw him compared to United superstar Paul Pogba. (h/t The Express)
