Liverpool look to trump Manchester United to Stefan Bajcetic
According to The Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are looking to trump Manchester United to the signing of Stefan Bajcetic.
The Celta Vigo centre-back is an excellent prospect and at just 16, he can be moulded into a dependable star for the future.
The Merseysiders have already held talks with the Spaniards and remain confident they can beat United to the youngster’s signature.
Securing the youngster will be a race against time thanks to the United Kingdom leaving the European Union on January 1st. Any deal to bring in Bajcetic will have to be completed before that.
According to the post-Brexit regulations, clubs cannot sign overseas players under the age of 18 once the UK officially leaves the EU. (h/t Liverpool Echo)
The new regulations will also see teams restricted to signing a maximum of three players under the age of 21 in any single transfer window. (h/t The Express)
Liverpool believed the opportunities given to their young players under Jurgen Klopp will make them an attractive destination for Bajcetic. The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and now Curtis Jones have emerged as first-team stars for the Merseysiders.
The same can be said of United, where the likes of Scott McTominay, Mason Greenwood, and Brandon Williams have emerged as first-team stars.
United have in recent windows focussed on bringing in some of the best young talents in world football. The Red Devils are set to add Amad Diallo to their ranks in January and are also leading the race to sign Moises Caicedo.
