Solskjaer makes his views clear about Edinson Cavani incident
Speaking after our win against Everton on Wednesday night (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer downplayed the potential red-card situation involving Edinson Cavani and Yerry Mina.
Manchester United played out a close-fought Carabao Cup quarter-final encounter against Everton on Wednesday night.
The match seemed to be heading to penalties until Edinson Cavani scored in the 88th minute.
The Uruguayan striker struck a venomous left-footed shot from around the edge of the box to give United the lead before Anthony Martial sealed the 2-0 scoreline in added time.
However, things could have turned out very differently for United. Edinson Cavani was involved in an incident with Everton defender Yerry Mina, where he grabbed the Toffees star by his throat and threw him to the ground.
This potential sending off for Cavani came in the 52nd minute of the match. Cavani was let off the hook as the incident was missed by the officials, who did not have the help of VAR for this game. (h/t M.E.N)
“Nothing in it!”
United’s manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer downplayed the incident and believes there is much ado about nothing.
The Norwegian just labelled it as a part of a “proper game of football” between two feisty South American players.
“Nothing in it. 2 South Americans that have had a few battles before… so, no, this was a proper game of football. With fans, tackles, yellow cards and chances at both ends, I enjoyed it.”
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti too said that he had not seen the incident involving Yerry Mina at first.
“I don’t know I didn’t see the situation with Yerry Mina.”
Nevertheless, all’s well that ends well. The win saw Manchester United make their way into another cup semi-final under Solskjaer.

The last 3 semi-finals under the Norwegian all came last season. Unfortunately, the Red Devils went on to lose all three of them.
It would certainly not be an easy one this time as well. United have a Manchester derby on their hands as we have been drawn against Manchester City for the League Cup semi-final.
