Manchester United in plans to offer Mason Greenwood a new contract
Speaking on the Here We Go podcast (h/t Daily Mail), Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano said that Manchester United are planning to offer a new contract to highly-rated youngster Mason Greenwood.
The news may come as a surprise to many as Greenwood only put pen to paper on a new deal back in October 2019. His current contract expires in the summer of 2023.
The 19-year-old broke into the United first-team last season, netting 17 goals in 49 appearances for the club in all competitions.
This season, however, things haven’t been quite the same. Greenwood has netted just once this term, in a 3-1 away win against West Ham United.
The youngster has gotten on the wrong side of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently by turning up late to training on several occasions.
Despite that, he has a big fan in Solskjaer, who wants to keep the youngster at Old Trafford for as long as possible.
He has clearly won over his manager’s trust. Greenwood has played in 8 of United’s last 9 matches, including the Carabao Cup quarter-final win against Everton last night.
He also has a fan in United great Andy Cole, who heaped the praise on him when talking on the Target Men podcast. (h/t Daily Mail)
“I believe Mason Greenwood has all the attributes and all of the potential to go on to become one of the world’s best strikers within the next 5 years.”
The trust placed in the youngster by two former United strikers is no coincidence. Greenwood is one of the most exciting young strikers in the league, having the numbers to match that claim.

17 goals in a season at the age of 18 for Manchester United is no small feat. Thus, there is no doubt that the United fanbase wants to see him spend his best footballing years at Old Trafford.
After being benched against Leeds United, Greenwood would be hoping to feature at the weekend when United take on Leicester City in the Premier League.
