A report by Sky Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News) has named Manchester United as one of the clubs interested in signing the highly-rated Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back Ben White.

The report also states that Manchester United are joined by Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea in the race to sign Ben White, and are keeping tabs on the performances of the 23-year-old this season.

Ben White has started in all 10 of Brighton and Hove Albion’s Premier League games this campaign and has only missed 11 minutes of football in the league.

The centre-back has been impressive in a back-three at Brighton alongside Adam Webster and Lewis Dunk, and is one of the best performing centre-backs this season.

White impressed in his loan spell at Leeds United last season and Marcelo Bielsa wanted to make the loan deal a permanent move. However, Brighton held out for £40m and instead tied down Ben White to a new contract which expires in the summer of 2024.

With Marcos Rojo, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, and Phil Jones already struggling to find minutes, Manchester United would be wise to offload a few players before they make any decision to bring in new ones.

However, inconsistent defensive displays from the team this season may have swayed Ole Gunner Solskjaer’s decision towards buying a new centre-back despite having depth in that position. (h/t Manchester Evening News)

Tottenham and Chelsea are the two clubs that are said to be rivalling Manchester United for White’s signature.

Manchester United have conceded just 3 goals fewer than Fulham, the team with the worst defensive record in the Premier League this season. The Red Devils have let in as many goals as they have scored at the other end in the Premier League (16).

Conceding goals at the rate of 1.6 per game is a major reason why the club is languishing in 9th position. A player of Ben White’s capability could help in that regard and can also be a good long-term signing, considering he is just 23 years of age.
