Alex Telles in contention to feature for Manchester United despite being Covid positive
According to MEN, Manchester United star Alex Telles is in contention to face West Bromwich Albion this weekend despite being Covid positive for now.
Concerns were raised after the Brazilian FA released a statement saying that the player had tested positive for coronavirus. His participation against Uruguay on Tuesday will depend on the result of his second COVID-19 test.
It was reported last month that the left-back had tested positive for coronavirus. United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had confirmed that the player was not showing any visible symptoms.
The defender missed the next two weeks of United training. He tested negative before travelling to link up with the Brazil squad.
He has now however been reported to have tested positive again. According to the report, it is understood that a positive test doesn’t necessarily mean he has contracted the virus again. Brazil national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar confirmed that the player is no longer in the transmission phase.
United meanwhile continue to monitor the situation in Brazil.
Telles is expected to return to England later this week. He will report to Carrington to be tested once again by the club. He can return to training with United and would be available to play this weekend provided the result comes out negative.
Given that Luke Shaw is now ruled out for four weeks with a hamstring injury, Telles’ availability will be a boost for Solskjaer.
