Bruno Fernandes joined Manchester United to win trophies
According to United’s official podcast (h/t The Mirror), Bruno Fernandes has admitted that he joined Manchester United to win trophies.
The Portuguese midfielder joined the club in January and has since been a runaway success. He hit the ground running and has emerged as one of our best players.
With 18 goals and 13 assists in just 33 appearances, Fernandes averages close to one goal contribution per game. The fact that he has done so having moved to a foreign league makes it all the more impressive.
It is now seven years since United last won the Premier League and three years since we last won a trophy.
The club has enjoyed a mixed start to the current season that has piled pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Fernandes however remains defiant and believes United should always be in the fray for the top prizes.
“For me, to come to a club like Manchester United is the same as why I went to Sporting – it was to win trophies.”
He is least concerned about other teams and believed United should focus on winning as much as they can.
The midfielder is under no illusions of the honour of playing for the Red Devils. One of the most storied clubs in the world, the fact that we have not won the title for seven years is something worrying.
“For a club like Manchester United, it’s a long time since we won the Premier League. It’s too long, I think.”
