[Not Roma]- Italian giants close in on the signing of out-of-favour Man United starlet

AC Milan closing in on signing Manchester United star Diogo Dalot on loan

According to reliable journalist, Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United star Diogo Dalot is close to joining AC Milan on loan.

The Portuguese defender has fallen down the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The arrival of Aaron Wan-Bissaka coupled with injuries saw Dalot play a largely peripheral role.

Given his limited impact, it came as no surprise when he was touted to be among those on their way out.

While the likes of Everton, Barcelona and PSG have all been linked with a move, there has been a lack of movement in any of those directions.

Italian giants AS Roma were also keen to take on the 21-year-old on loan and even brought it up while negotiating for Chris Smalling.

United, meanwhile, rejected the idea as they were keen on selling the player on a permanent deal. It would now appear that the Red Devils have backtracked on their stance.

The only difference being it will be Roma’s local rivals AC Milan who profit. Romano revealed that negotiations are in the final phase ahead of a season-long loan.

The deal will not include an option to buy and appears to be similar to the deal that took Smalling to Roma last summer.

If the deal gets completed, Dalot will be the second United star loaned out to a Serie A club this summer. The other being Andreas Pereira to Lazio.

The deal represents a smart move by United. Dalot has better chances of playing regularly in Italy than at Old Trafford.

Doing so could see him recapture the form that saw United splash the cash to get him in 2018. If he enjoys a similarly successful spell as Smalling, there will be no lack of suitors come next summer.
