Manchester United make enquiry for Chelsea star N’Golo Kante
According to the Mirror, Manchester United have made a surprise enquiry to try and sign Chelsea midfield ace N’Golo Kante.
The 29-year-old French international has been with Chelsea since 2016, having signed from Leicester City.
The midfielder won the Premier League title in his debut season with the Blues and has also added an FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League title to his CV during his time at Stamford Bridge.
However, Chelsea could allow Kante this summer, having spent over £200m in the market. And now, it is being claimed that Manchester United have made an enquiry over the possibility of his signing. (h/t Mirror)
It is claimed that the Red Devils have made contact with the player’s representatives to test the waters. But, for a deal to go through Kante would have to take a huge wage cut on his current £300,000-a-week wages.
But Kante is reluctant to take a pay cut, casting clouds of uncertainty over a potential transfer.

Signing someone like Kante would help Manchester United extract the best out of creative midfielders like Bruno Fernandes and Donny van de Beek.
However, a deal this close to the transfer deadline day could be difficult to work out. In addition, the midfielder himself is reluctant to take a pay cut, so a move would be complicated.
There are more pressing concerns for Manchester United. A new forward, a left-back, and a centre-back are still on the agenda. It remains to be seen how many players the club can bring in before the window closes.
