Twitter reacts as Manchester United emerge as a possible destination for Lionel Messi
According to MEN, Manchester United are among a host of clubs touted as a destination for Lionel Messi.
The Argentine superstar sent shockwaves across the football world with his decision to leave Barcelona this summer. The 8-2 humbling by Bayern Munich only cleared up any issues the club was facing both on and off the pitch.
Having been at the Nou Camp for 20 years, Messi has given all he can for the cause and the time could be ripe for a fresh beginning.
Despite being 33, the generational superstar is still among the best players in the world. This is perfectly illustrated by how he carried the Catalan giants last season.
The possibility of signing a player of this magnitude would be a dream come true for United fans. Adding Messi to a vibrant young attack would provide them with both quality and mentorship.
United have in recent times focussed on signing young players. The club have, however, showed that they are willing to bend it, as shown in the case of Odion Ighalo.
It can be argued that the Nigerian was a special case. But it does not get any more special than Messi. Opportunities such as these come by once in a lifetime and it remains to be seen if United will take a bite.
A number of fans took to Twitter to debate on the topic. We take a look at a few of them below.
Twitter reacts as Manchester United are linked with Lionel Messi
If he wants give it to him. Offers like this are once in a life time. He comes for free but costs 52 mil a year for maybe 3 years, good deal imo

3 premier leagues in a row, ballon dor, ucl. Messi wouldn’t join, he can’t live up to Ronaldo’s united legacy.

Not happening. We financially can’t afford Sancho and we are linking ourselves to Messi. How much more are we going to embarrass

In my opinion, if he joins PSG or City his legacy is ruined. United are perfect for him marketing and stature wise, iconic club with millions of followers.

I think we should go for him. At the current situation, this will save Ed and Glazers from the hate from the fans for their incompetence in the transfer market.

Moreover, it will make Man United the only club where Ronaldo, Messi and Zlatan played once.
The marketing potential of Messi in an mufc shirt would make that a non issue… And I don’t think the wage structure debate applies to Messi… He is in actual sense the best to ever do it…
