The Three Lions will begin their Nations League campaign with a trip to Iceland on September 5th and face Denmark three days later. These will be the national team’s first fixtures since November last year.
And manager Gareth Southgate has handed Mason Greenwood his first international call-up for the upcoming set of fixtures. This is another major stride in what has been a brilliant year for the youngster.
Having made his senior debut in the 2018/19 term, Greenwood became a first-team regular in the recently concluded season. The 18-year-old academy graduate played an integral role in our third-place finish in the Premier League and impressive runs in the cup competitions.
Greenwood ended the season with a highly-impressive return of 17 goals and 5 assists across all competitions. And his brilliance has been rewarded with a call-up to the national team.
Along with him fellow Manchester United teammate Dean Henderson has also earned a call-up after impressing on loan at Sheffield United. Marcus Rashford has also been named, while Harry Maguire is also a part, in spite of his tryst with the law in Greece. (h/t Sky Sports)
Naturally, the fans were ecstatic with the news of Greenwood’s call-up. And here is how some supporters reacted to the update on social media.
