Manchester United will need to pay £40million for David Brooks
According to the Daily Mail (h/t Metro), Manchester United will have to fork out £40million to land Bournemouth winger David Brooks.
The Welshman is seen as an alternative to Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho. Negotiations for the 20-year-old have stalled, prompting United to look at other options.
Brooks represents a cheaper alternative and has been on the club’s radar for some time now. The player was linked with a move to Old Trafford in a deal worth £50million last summer but a deal failed to materialize.
The 23-year-old only played a peripheral role this season as Bournemouth were relegated to the Championship. An injury to his ankle saw him get sidelined for the majority of the season, with him making just nine appearances throughout the campaign.
If a deal does happen, he will be the second Welshman signed by the club in two summers. United brought in Daniel James last summer after a glowing recommendation from Welsh boss Ryan Giggs. (h/t Metro)
Unlike his international teammate, Brooks will already have had top-flight experience before moving to Old Trafford. Having joined the Cherries from Sheffield United in 2018, the 23-year-old went on to enjoy a promising season at the Vitality Stadium.
A promising quantity
In fact, his numbers of seven goals and five assists during his first season was just shy of the numbers put up by James Maddison. The Leicester City star made just two assists more while playing six extra games.
His performances saw him win the coveted Welsh Footballer of the Year award in 2019. The last United player to do so was none other than United legend and current Welsh boss Ryan Giggs.
Having dropped down a level, Bournemouth could see a number of players leave the club this summer. The exodus has already begun, with Nathan Ake joining Manchester City and Aaron Ramsdale joining Sheffield United.

Brooks is undoubtedly a promising talent. However, he is no Sancho. The Dortmund winger is a proven match-winner who is on the cusp of greatness.
Brooks could however prove to be a player who can do the job at Old Trafford.
