Louis Saha believes Memphis Depay is open to a Manchester United return
According to the Football Index Podcast (h/t Express), former Manchester United star Louis Saha has backed Memphis Depay and his motivation to return to the club.
The Dutchman endured a difficult two years at Old Trafford. Having arrived with huge expectations, he was largely a flop.
Depay eventually moved to Lyon in 2017. He has since rebuilt his reputation and is today a key member of the French outfit.
Saha believes Depay would be extremely motivated to return to Old Trafford. Still just 26, Depay has years ahead of him in the game.
Having arrived at United a kid, his second coming if it does happen will be that of a player who has fine tuned his skills. Despite his prodisious ability, his was raw and untamed during his spell at United.
His development has also seen him become a key member of the Dutch national squad. Depay has scored 19 goals in 51 appearances and played a starring role in Netherlands’ qualification for Euro 2020 (Now 2021).
Saha admitted that he was far from impressed with Depay during his time at United.
“I wasn’t a fan of Memphis Depay when he was originally at the club because I don’t think he was mentally ready.”
The Dutchman’s spell in Ligue 1 looks to have rubbed off on Saha, who believes he has matured at Lyon.
“Depay has really matured and has become a leader in an exciting Lyon team.”
Saha believes Depay has the ability to play at the top level. Having initially failed, he would be keen to set things right at United.

Depay’s move to United probably came too early in his career. The pressure of putting on the Red jersey weighs down heavily on some than others.
To his credit, Depay has gone on to resurrect his career than get lost in the wild.
He is a player who is vastly different from the one who walked into Carrington five years ago.
