Raul Jimenez backed to stay put at Wolves amidst Manchester United interest
Speaking to BT Sport (h/t Birmingham Mail), former Manchester City star Joleon Lescott has backed Raul Jimenez to stay put at Wolverhampton Wanderers despite interest from Manchester United.
The 29-year-old has enjoyed great success since joining the Molineux outfit in 2018. Having initially made the move on a loan, he went on to sign a permanent deal last summer in what was a club-record fee.
The Mexican ace has scored 27 goals this season as he led Wolves to the quarter-finals of the Europa League. Unfortunately for them, they were knocked out by Sevilla after Jimenez missed a penalty.
With no European football to look forward to next season, Jimenez has been backed to seek a move elsewhere. According to the report, Liverpool are also interested in the 29-year-old.
Lescott believes Jimenez is happy and settled at Wolves and has no reason to seek a move elsewhere. Given his importance to Nuno Espirito Santo, he is someone Wolves could find difficult to replace.
“We know that potentially there could be movement in years to come but it seems like he’s content playing for Wolves and giving them his best efforts.”
Jimenez isn’t just a prolific goalscorer. He also plays a key role in the interconnecting play and also gets his fair share of assists. He has so far made 10 assists this season.
“He’s potentially irreplaceable.”
At 29, Jimenez is not likely to be a long-term option. However, his game intelligence and ability to make the best use of his talents can see him adapt as he gets older.

Wolves have agreed to a £27m deal to sign Sporting Braga striker Paulinho. It remains to be seen what effect it has on Jimenez’s role in the squad.
United also have an advantage if they do seek to pursue the Mexican. The player’s agent Jorge Mendes has an excellent relationship with the Red Devils. This could make a potential switch more doable. Jimenez’s current contract at the Molineux runs until 2023. (h/t Express)
Despite United’s front trio of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood all impressing, Jimenez will add another dimension to our front-line.
A traditional number nine, finding the back of the net comes naturally to him. It remains to be seen if United indeed make a move for him this summer.
