Angel Gomes chose to leave Manchester United following their interest in Jadon Sancho
According to MEN, former Manchester United starlet Angel Gomes chose to leave the club, partly due to the potential incoming of Jadon Sancho.
Having come through the club’s academy, United had high hopes for Gomes. The playmaker made his debut at just 16 during Jose Mourinho’s time in charge.
However, he became one of the 10 players to leave the club as a free agent this summer. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskajer would have liked to keep the youngster, but the attempts at retaining him went nowhere.
Both Chelsea and Barcelona were keen on securing Gomes. They are however yet to make their move.
One of the points of contention between Gomes and United was the game time afforded to the youngster. He made just five Premier League appearances this season.
With Sancho coming in, it is possible that it would have gotten even scarcer. Armed with the knowledge that the United hierarchy are keen to get the Borussia Dortmund star, Gomes chose to try his luck elsewhere.
According to Sky Sports reporter James Cooper (h/t Express), the 19-year-old had an offer on the table for a long time.
United were keen Gomes to continue developing and fulfil the potential. The youngster’s performances saw him win the club’s Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year Award in 2017. He becomes the first player born in the 21st century to play for the club in the league.

Sancho is one of the world’s best young players. Getting him to United will be a coup for the club.
Losing Gomes is a bitter pill to swallow but the trust is that Sancho is a much better player than him despite being just a year older. Now that Gomes is out of the picture, Ed Woodward must do all he can to bring in Sancho.
