Manchester United planning to recruit director of football

According to a report from The Telegraph (h/t Mirror), Manchester United are working towards appointing a new director of football this summer.

Fans have been calling for a sporting director at Old Trafford for quite some time now. And the calls aren’t unfounded given the club’s history of failed transfers under CEO Ed Woodward.

However, things seemed to have improved over the past two windows, where the club secured top signings like Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Bruno Fernandes.

But the club are now proceeding forward with the appointment of a new director. And the search for the appropriate candidate for the job is already underway.

As per the report, Atletico Madrid’s Andrea Berti is being considered for the role. Juventus’ Fabio Paratici is also believed to be in the reckoning along with former PSG director Antero Henrique.

The report further goes on to add that the candidate who gets appointed will not be making any drastic changes to the structure in place. But instead, he will be working closely with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his team.

An alternate report from the MEN (h/t Mirror) claims that plans for the appointment of a new director will not slow down Manchester United’s transfer plans for the upcoming window.

This is certainly a step in the right direction. It will help sort out our mishandlings in the transfer market in the recent past.
