Man United to battle Chelsea for world-class La Liga star with £109m release clause

Jab Oblak open to PL switch with Manchester United interested

According to the Daily Mail, Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak is open to the idea of moving to the Premier League amidst interest from Manchester United.

The Slovenian superstar is among the finest players in his position. He has consistently emerged as a match-winner for Diego Simeone’s side.

The 27-year-old is unsettled at Atletico and is looking for a bigger, more ambitious challenge. Oblak is unhappy at some of the decisions and directions taken by Atletico’s sporting director Andrea Berta.

United have rekindled their interest in Oblak after current number one David de Gea’s recent error against Chelsea.

The Red Devils do have Dean Henderson returning to the club after an impressive loan spell at Sheffield United. However, they do not believe he is experienced enough to become the numero uno at Old Trafford.

De Gea signed a new four-year extension just last season. Offloading the Spaniard could prove difficult owing to his massive £360,000-a-week wages.

United will, however, face competition from Chelsea, who are running out of patience with Kepa Arrizabalaga.

A fan favourite at the Wanda Metropolitano, Atletico will not allow Oblak to leave for anything less than his release clause worth £109m. Signing the Slovenian will no doubt enhance our title credentials but in the current financial climate, the fee may prove to be a bridge too far.

Oblak is a proven talent at the top level. He has conceded just 174 goals in 256 matches for Atletico and has kept an impressive 139 clean sheets. The fact that he averages 0.68 goals conceded per match is truly staggering.
