Arch-rivals make surprise enquiry about Man United flop two years after losing out

Manchester City approach Manchester United regarding Alexis Sanchez

According to Chilean publication La Cuarta (h/t Mirror), Manchester City are in contact with Manchester United regarding Alexis Sanchez.

The 31-year-old was subject to a titanic tussle between both clubs in 2018. United finally prevailed as they landed the prolific Chilean in exchange for Henrikh Mkhitaryan. What looked like an excellent move then has since turned into a disaster.

Not only has Sanchez failed to replicate his best form on the pitch but has also proved to be a financial burden. His massive wages have made it difficult for the Red Devils to sell him as we attempt to cut our losses.

Manchester City have reiterated their interest in Alexis Sanchez

Currently on loan at Inter Milan, Sanchez has shown he still has it in him, with a recent upturn in form. However, his future still continues to be up in the air.

According to the report, United are keen to send the player back on loan to Inter for next season. They are against entertaining any thoughts of working out a similar deal with our noisy neighbours.

This has not stopped Pep Guardiola’s side from enquiring about Sanchez’s demands. The Chilean is currently on a massive £400,000-per-week deal that United are keen to get off their wage bill.

Add to that his value of £17million. Potential suitors would have to stump up a significant amount, which has put Inter off a permanent deal.

The report goes on to add that United are keen to add an obligation to buy clause along with Sanchez’s next loan deal. This should increase our chances of finally getting him off our books.

Sanchez was an excellent player at both Barcelona and Arsenal. Us beating City to his signature was seen by many as a sign of the club’s pull and power.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing to have. Sadly in the Chilean’s case, we erred big time.
