A good pre-season hasn't translated to a good campaign.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer takes Southampton fightback in his stride

According to the Express, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits his team will fight to the end in the battle for the top four.

The Red Devils could have moved up to third with a victory over Southampton. In fact, we were just mere seconds from doing so only for Michael Obafemi to bring the saints level in the 96th minute.

The draw ensured that United stayed fifth, behind Leicester City on goal difference. Solskjaer is keen to move on and not dwell on the heartbreaking end to yesterday’s game.

“We’ll take it and move on to Thursday and go down to Selhurst Park.”

The United boss admits United conceded at the worst possible time. He believes his team has to be strong enough to deal with it. Especially so, since we ourselves have won games at the death on multiple occasions.

Having done the same against Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final, Solskjaer clearly knows what he is talking about.

“You’ve just got to be strong and take it because we’ve won so many games that way ourselves.”

The Norwegian believes his team played well but did not take their chances. He was gracious enough to admit Southampton played well and deserved what they got.

“It was just one of those days where we didn’t take our chances and they told theirs.”

Solskjaer was full of praise for Anthony Martial and David de Gea. The former gave us the lead with a well-taken strike. The Spanish goalkeeper, on the other hand, made a key save in his 400th appearance for the club.
