Jude Bellingham chooses Borussia Dortmund over Manchester United
According to a report from The Times, Manchester United’s pursuit of Birmingham City starlet Jude Bellingham has failed to bear fruit as the youngster has chosen to join German giants Borussia Dortmund.
Bellingham is one of the most highly-coveted youngsters across Europe, after breaking through the senior setup in 2019/20. He became the Blues’ youngest ever debutant, having made his first-team appearance aged 16 years and 38 days.
Bellingham featured 38 times across all competitions for Birmingham in 2019/20. He impressed with a return of four goals and three assists.
Having turned 17 this past Monday, the youngster was free to sign a professional contract with the club of his choosing. And as per the report, Bellingham has decided to further his career in Germany at Dortmund.
Dortmund have agreed a deal worth up to £20.7m with Birmingham, with the youngster signing a five-year contract. The reason for him to choose Dortmund over us is that he believes first-team opportunities are likely to be more forthcoming at the Bundesliga outfit. (h/t The Times)
This ought to come as a huge blow for Manchester United. From giving a tour of the club’s training facilities to Sir Alex Ferguson himself speaking to the 17-year-old, the Red Devils had pulled out all stops to secure the signing of the teenage wonderkid.
However, the midfielder, who has scored two goals in three games for the England U-17 national team, has decided that his future lies at Signal Iduna Park. (h/t The Times)
