Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe ruled out till September
Ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth this weekend, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that defender Axel Tuanzebe is ruled out till September. (h/t ManUtd.com)
The 22-year-old Tuanzebe is a product of Manchester United’s youth academy. After having had a couple of loan spells away at Aston Villa, the youngster looked set for a big season at Old Trafford this time out.
However, he picked up a hip injury early on in the season, which ruled him out for a considerable period. While he did return in November, a thigh injury ruled him out till March.
The 22-year-old defender last featured for United in December, in the Carabao Cup tie against Colchester United.
Tuanzebe did make it to the bench on a couple of occasions before lockdown. But he has been unavailable for selection since the resumption of the season. And it now seems he will not be taking part in the rest of the 2019/20 campaign.
“Axel, we won’t probably see until September,” Solskjaer said ahead of the Bournemouth game.
This ought to come as a blow for the youngster, who had impressed in his handful of appearances under Ole this season. Tuanzebe’s campaign ends with just 10 appearances across all competitions.

In his absence, Solskjaer confirmed that another academy ace, Ethan Laird will be training with the first-team from now on. The young defender made his senior debut in the Europa League earlier this season and could get more minutes under his belt before the campaign ends.
